Welcome to our Baiyang Blog.
The battle to save the Butterfly Cave has been dragging on for almost ten years. Ten years of meetings, letters, tears, broken promises, lies and bullying. We can't say it hasn't been tough. But in that time we've also experienced support from all over the country, and overseas. We've been able to engage with amazing and compassionate people who understand the importance of Aboriginal heritage and the negative impact the loss of culture has on indigenous people. Aboriginal women's voices have traditionally been silenced. It's time to stop that happening in Australia in 2020 - and we have the chance to make that happen. We fought for the Declaration made under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act, and we just need the Minister for Environment, Hon Sussan Ley MP, to enforce it. If she enforces the Declaration, Roche Group/Hammersmith will not be able to build their McMansions adjacent to our precious site. Resource rich bushland will remain untouched. The Cave will not be exposed to vibration damage, loss of privacy and desecration. It sounds simple, right? But will Minister Ley have the courage to stand up to billionaire developers? We must keep pushing Minister Ley to do what is right. We must protect this precious site now and into the future. Aboriginal heritage must not be sacrificed for developer profits.
